Nicotine Pouch Slang Dictionary for Store Staff: Zyns, Lip Pillows, Upper Deckies and More

October 27, 2026, 3 min read. By the PouchWholesalers sales team.

In short: Customers rarely ask for 'a tobacco-free nicotine pouch'. They ask for zyns, pouches, a roll of something or an upper decky. This glossary helps your staff understand what customers mean and point them to the right product.

Customers almost never use the official name for what they want. Nobody walks up to the counter and asks for “a tobacco-free nicotine pouch in a slim format at 6mg.” They ask for zyns, a pack of pouches, a roll of something minty, or “the strong ones.”

This glossary is for store staff. It explains the words customers use, what they usually mean, and which product to point them to.

Product words

Pouch / nicotine pouch / white pouch The general term. A small pouch containing nicotine and plant-based filler, placed under the lip. Modern pouches are white and tobacco-free.

Zyns / zynnies Customers often use “zyns” to mean any nicotine pouch, the way people say “Kleenex” for any tissue. If someone asks for zyns, check whether they want ZYN specifically or just a pouch.

Snus A traditional Swedish product that contains tobacco. Many customers use “snus” loosely for any pouch. If a customer asks for snus, ask whether they want a tobacco product or a tobacco-free white pouch.

All white Describes pouches with a white, tobacco-free filling. Some brands use it in product names, such as Siberia “All White Portion.”

Portion Another word for a single pouch, common on Scandinavian cans.

Using a pouch

Lip pillow Slang for a pouch, from the way it sits under the lip.

Upper decky / upper decker Placing a pouch under the upper lip instead of the lower lip. It is a way of using the product, not a separate product.

Dip Traditionally refers to moist tobacco. Some customers use it loosely for pouches. Clarify which they mean.

Packaging words

Can / tin / puck The round container a pouch product is sold in. Most standard cans hold around 20 pouches, but it varies by brand.

Roll / log / strip / sleeve A pack of several cans wrapped together, often ten. Regular customers frequently buy by the roll, which is also how many stores stock their best sellers.

Mega can A large can holding many more pouches, sometimes 200 to 300 or more. See our mega can guide.

Carton The wholesale case that rolls and cans ship in. Our minimum order is 2 cartons, mixed brands allowed.

Format words

Slim The standard long, narrow pouch most customers use. About two-thirds of the products we list are slim.

Mini A smaller, more discreet pouch. Often but not always lighter in strength.

Large / original / normal portion A bigger, traditional pouch size, more common with Scandinavian brands.

Dry A pouch with lower moisture that releases more slowly. A niche format.

More detail in slim vs mini vs large.

Strength words

mg / milligrams Nicotine per pouch. The most reliable way to compare strength.

mg/g Nicotine concentration per gram. Some cans print this instead of mg per pouch, which can make a product look stronger or weaker than it is.

Dots / strength dots Many Scandinavian cans show strength as a row of dots. More dots, stronger product. We use the same five-dot scale on our site.

S1 to S6 Strength levels printed on some European editions, for example ZYN S2 or S4.

Light, regular, strong, extra strong, ultra, hyper, extreme Brand marketing words for strength. They are not consistent between brands, so always check the mg.

Our strength guide for retailers explains how to compare strengths across brands.

Flavor words

Ice / frost / freeze / cold Signals a cooling effect, either on its own (Cold Mint) or added to fruit (Grape Ice, Berry Frost).

Wintergreen A sweet, minty flavor with a long tradition in the US.

Cola, soda, fizz Soft-drink style flavors, often with a fizzy or sparkling note.

A note for staff

Slang is a sign that a customer is a regular user. Use it to understand what they want, but always confirm strength and check age before every sale.

Questions from store owners

Is snus the same as a nicotine pouch?

No. Snus contains tobacco. Modern white nicotine pouches are tobacco-free. Customers often use the words interchangeably, so staff should ask what the customer means.

What does 'a roll' mean?

A roll, also called a log or strip, is a pack of several cans, often ten, wrapped together. Many regular customers buy by the roll.

What is an upper decky?

Slang for placing a pouch under the upper lip rather than the lower lip. It is a way of using a pouch, not a product type.

WARNING: This product contains nicotine which is a highly addictive substance.
