Slim vs Mini vs Large: Nicotine Pouch Formats Explained for Buyers
Format is the physical size and shape of the pouch. It matters more than many buyers expect: customers who are used to one format often will not switch, and stocking the wrong format for your customer base is a quiet way to build dead stock.
Slim: the default
A slim pouch is long and narrow, designed to sit comfortably under the lip. It is the standard format for most modern brands and the one most US customers have used.
In our catalog, about two-thirds of products are slim. If you only stock one format, stock this one. ZYN, VELO, Killa, XQS and Skruf ranges are almost entirely slim.
Mini: smaller and more discreet
A mini pouch is shorter and smaller than a slim. Customers choose minis because they are more discreet and sit more comfortably for some users.
Minis are often, but not always, sold at lighter strengths. ZYN minis in our range run from 1.5mg to 6mg, while the 77 Ghost minis are 20mg. So “mini” does not mean “mild”; check the mg.
We list around 55 mini products. A sensible approach is to carry minis of your top two or three mint flavors, so customers who prefer the format have a choice without you duplicating the whole range.
Large and original portion
Large or “original” portions are the bigger, traditional size that many Scandinavian brands started with. They hold more pouch material, and because total nicotine depends on both size and concentration, a large pouch can deliver more than its mg/g figure suggests.
Large formats appeal to experienced users and to customers who came to pouches from traditional Scandinavian products. Siberia and some Loop products come in larger formats. Treat these as specialty items: one or two SKUs for stores with the right customer base.
Mega cans
A mega can holds far more pouches than a standard can, often in the hundreds. Brands like Zixs, XPCT and Greatest offer them. They suit heavy users who prefer to buy less often, and they work well in online shops and specialist stores. We cover them in detail in our mega can guide.
Dry pouches
Some products, such as PHIZ minis, are described as “dry”. Dry pouches have less moisture, so they release more slowly and feel different from the moist white pouches most customers know. They are a niche product and best tested with a single SKU.
Which formats to stock
| Store type | Slim | Mini | Large | Mega can |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Convenience store or gas station | Most of the range | 2–3 SKUs | Optional | No |
| Vape or smoke shop | Most of the range | 3–5 SKUs | 1–2 SKUs | 1–2 SKUs |
| Online shop | Full range | Full range | Selected | Yes |
A note on pouch counts
Pouches per can vary by brand and format. Many standard cans hold 20 pouches, but this is not universal, and mega cans hold far more. Where the supplier data is available we show pouches per can on each product page; otherwise our sales team confirms it with your quote.
The takeaway
Build on slim, offer minis of your best sellers, and treat large formats and mega cans as specialty items for the customers who ask for them. For how format fits into your overall layout, see how to stock a nicotine pouch display.
